Recommendations: Read, Eat and Listen

Read: “Tiny Beautiful Things: Advice on love and life from Dear Sugar.” I’m on a bit of a Cheryl Strayed kick post-reading Wild,  so picked up this collection and safe and heart-rending advice from Strayed’s stint as a relationship columnist from The Rumpus.  Strayed is straight up, literate and street-wise, brutally honest, ultra authentic, unflinching as she advises on a host of achingly human dramas. The book is at once a page turner and a tear jerker and a soul soother.
Eat: There’s a little pizzeria in the avenues, Pizzetta 211, we stopped into before Alex Walsh’s show (a download party, actually!) the other night. I love it’s itty-bitty store-front ness, its thin crust pizza, wine in tumblers, red painted walls, round sidewalk tables and general Euro vibe even if I generally don’t eat pizza or go there that much. Anyhow, they had a really smashing eggplant caponata appetizer. Go there when you’re in the avenues. It’s small, no reservations, cash only.
Listen: I heard Trampled by Turtles in SXSW and was uber struck by how much energy they pack into their acoustic instruments. They’re a bunch of dudes from Minnesota and they’ve got some heart on ’em amid the chops.
