Here’s a really great check list for dining, surfing, drinking and shopping in Maine’s coastal town of Kennebunkport.
DINNER: The Wayfarer is a clapboard restaurant, known as a Cape Porpoise institution since it opened in the 1950s. Try the sweet-crenshaw melon.
LUNCH: Cape Porpoise Kitchen which is a bit like a fishing village but with a sophisticated flare. Imagine sauces and spreads from a Stonewall Kitchen, canoe-shaped shelves (so very Maine) and fresh corn and basil salad and crab cakes.
DRINK: A dockside sports bar, check out The Ramp, which is tucked under Pier 77 restaurant. The bar is lined with pennants and memorabilia, with a patio that is lined with seashells which are leftovers from their infamous clam chowder.
SURF: At Aquaholics, you can suit up for a private surf lesson on Gooch’s Beach.
SHOP: Daytrip Society is located in Dock Square and offers everything from bird-call whistles, Stanley thermoses and Fjallraven backpacks from Sweden.
