For those that are unaware of Upstart, it is a not-for-profit collective who aim to keep arts and culture on the agenda in the upcoming elections. With the city’s streets covered with posters promoting political parties and canvassing votes, UpStart decided to put up a few posters of their own: but with art or poetry replacing political slogans. Check out this video for a little introduction to the project.
I’ll be playing a role documenting the project’s progress. I’ll also be focusing on the public reactions to UpStart – as this is a project all about stimulating public thought by a very public platform, obviously it’s very important to gauge what people are saying about UpStart. So I’ll be taking to the streets and finding out a little bit about what people think of the posters. I’ll also be discussing public art in general – the impact it has upon people, and how it can affect society.
