There hasn’t really been a better time to talk a stroll around your area. The weather’s picking up a bit and it’s Walk to Work Week, so it’s a perfect time for a two-footed commute.
Recently, we made a film about getting from point A to B in a carefree and enjoyable way. The Urban Rambler is all about the delights of walking in your own city and the people, places and objects that greet you along the way.
So, you can imagine our excitement when we came across My Street, a film competition of people’s views of their own street or area, just like the Urban Rambler.
The competition is open to anyone, from the Palme d’Or winning expert to the very beginner. The brief is to make a short documentary about your street. But the term “street” is used very loosely; it could be any aspect of your neighbourhood, from the alley you walk down to get to the local shop to somebody you see at the bus stop every day or even your own walk to work route.
The end result feels like My Street will house a collection of urban rambles – different people finding their feet and their way in their local areas and sharing the uniqueness of where they live, work or play.
So go and have a wander around your street and see what lovely, interesting and unusual things are around you. And watch The Urban Rambler as well to get some inspiration.
