HOPSY for Beer on Tap at Home

Comments Off on HOPSY for Beer on Tap at Home

Are you a beer lover? Then meet HOPSY, a cool system that allows you to pour premium beer at home. We were given the opportunity to review HOPSY‘sSUB Home Tap Draft System as well as six different types of beer, so we were excited to put it to the test.

What exactly is a SUB Home Tap System? Think of it as a plug-and-pour appliance that sits right on your countertop, and only needs a plug to work. You don’t need a CO2 cartridge or know anything about making beer — you simply slide your Hopsy minikegs in the SUB and pour a fresh draft beer! The first thought that Anthony had when it arrived was: “how does it stay cold?” He likes his beer very cold and so….

It turns out that the SUB also includes its own refrigeration system and keeps your beer fresh and ready to go at all time, so it‘s cold when you‘re ready to pour!

It’s also beautiful to look at it — hey, design matters in our household. It turns out that it looks so good because it was designed by high-end German manufacturer Krups and the SUB Home Tap is covered by Krups two-year limited warranty.

How it Works

It’s pretty easy to set HOPSY up at home.

The SUB Home Tap has been designed to fit on most countertops — its dimensions are 17.8 w x 7.5 h x 15.1 d inches (without the drip tray) and it weighs around 15 pounds. It’s so small that’s easy to put it away in a cupboard for any occasions you don’t want it out, but why hide it away if you’re having people over?

The device comes with beer to start things off and then you can order additional beer at your leisure. They come in what they refer to as Minikegs (aka torps) which are essentially 67 oz bottles of beer designed specifically for The SUB Hometap. To give you an idea for planning purposes, each minikeg contains the equivalent of about a six pack or 4 full pints and each minikeg comes with its own one-time use disposable beer tube. Easy to maintain, the minikegs are made of PET plastic so are fully recycable.

Lots of Fun Beer Flavors

They offer a variety of different types of beer to choose from, so they have nearly every taste covered, including IPAs, Lagers, Stouts and Pilsner. I’m a huge fan of Stouts and Anthony loves his IPAs, so we got both.  They work directly with top breweries of the country to source some of the best beers — they also offer access to their limited releases as well which we were thrilled to learn. They select your beers based on your preferences but also give you the flexibility to make changes and order anything from their menu directly. You can enjoy a rotating selection of beers each month or select your favorite go-to’s!!

They get their beers directly from the source for maximum freshness including some of the most noted award-winning breweries. The guys at HOPSY apparently use feedback from customers to find the right combination of flavors in every style. Currently, they’re working with a wide range of breweries such as Lagunitas, Coronado, Affligem, Gun Hill, Hermitage, Gordon Biersch, Ommegang and more.

It turns out that their most popular order is the 4 Keg Starter Pack although they have a variety of options to choose from, both in the original order of your SUB Home Tap system and for the types of beers you order.

Delivery & Replacements

We thought their free delivery was a really nice feature — you can also customize it. For example, you can order online for home or office delivery. And, you can actually pick the day and time when it’s most convenient for you to receive your beers. Although we haven’t ordered any replacements yet so can’t speak to the delivery process, apparently a Hopsy delivery person will hand you your craft beer at your doorstep. How cool is that right?

Their mini-kegs are shipped completely pressurized – this means they’re shelf-stable (without refrigeration) for 30 days. In other words, they arrive cold. There are no contracts, commitments, service charges or fees — this was one of the first questions that friends asked when we brought out the system. You can cancel your plan at any time.  You can also swap beers in your upcoming shipment by visiting your Club Preferences page (when logged in to your account).
