Last night, we headed to the Club at Wingtip on Montgomery Street in San Francisco (private and typically for members only) to celebrate National Caviar Day, an annual event, but only our first time attending.
Hosting the event was ~THE CAVIAR COMPANY~ who provided unlimited caviar, Champagne, tequila, premium vodka and whiskey. I realize that not everyone loves caviar but I happened to be one who “gets it” and loves tasting caviar of all kinds. And, they had plenty of options to choose from.
They also had some scrumptious single malt Scotch whiskey — meet the 1992 Bruichladdich (it was so divine)! All Bruichladdich whiskey is bottled naturally, un-chill filtered and with no added color which allows it to retain its natural oils which makes the drink so complex and delish.
Another favorite in Virgin Oak – the Octomore Scottish Barley, which is the most heavily peated spirit series in the world. We hope to review both of these gems and perhaps their Port Charlotte Islay Barley as well, which we didn’t taste at the event.
Premium tequila also had its own station.
And a few variations of champagne mixers – the one with infused blackberry was by far a favorite.
If you don’t know much about caviar, it’s definitely an acquired taste, though it had me at hello the first time I tried it. The Caviar Company is based on Union Street in San Francisco and has a sophisticated tasting room and event space offering caviar samples and custom-packed tins to go. I never got a chance to try their Russian Osetra Caviar or their Siberian Sturgeon which both sounded amazing.
The Caviar sisters were at the event (founders of the company) and their focus is on the “finest sustainable caviar currently available.” Using aquaculture and sustainable sturgeon farming methods, they feel that “they can contribute to promoting sustainable farming practices as well as educate others on aquaculture.”
Also worth noting is a delicious organic caviar I tried from Canada once.
The above shot and the two below shots were contributed by Laurie Jo Miller Farr who joined us at the event. All others taken on my iPhone.
