La Bastille: Where Traditional Czech Cuisine Meets French on Ujezd

Comments Off on La Bastille: Where Traditional Czech Cuisine Meets French on Ujezd

Bastille is the symbol of the french revolution. It was built in 1370 during the reign of Charles V to protect the trade routes between Paris and the southern interior of France.Only later it became a royal fortress and state prison. In July 14, 1789 Bastille fell into the hands of the francouského people.

There is a cute cafe/pub on Ujezd on Mala Strana in Prague called La Bastille that serves beer from tap and traditional Czech dishes, with outside seating. If the weather is good, it’s a great place to hang out and grab a beer in the late afternoon with a snack.

Based on what I sampled, my recommendations include the following (snacks and beer not dinner):

1. Duck liver on sherry with grilled pineapple and shaved almonds.

2. Homemade pate with cranberry sauce and toaste.

3. Caprese salad with rocket.

4. Cabbage soup with Sausage.

5. Garlic soup with bacon, croutons and a poached egg. (it also comes with cheese but it’s overdone, so either ask to skip the cheese or go very light on the cheese).

You can also get a farm plate with pork, smoked meat, sausage, red cabbage, and dumplings, as well as a piquant goulash with bread dumplings, roast duck with cumin, red cabbage and sort dumplings, and lastly worth trying is the beef with wine, cranberry sauce and croquettes. BTW, they also serve Budweiser on tap NOT to be confused with the American budweiser beer (they promised and assured me more than once). And truth be told, it tastes a helluva lot better too.
