I had always heard great things about Maui and Hawaii in general so my expectations were already pretty high. Yet, I don’t think it sank in until my plane began its descent into Kahului Airport and the vibrant green valleys that make this island so unique began to appear. From that moment I was totally hooked on Maui and I hadn’t even left the comfort of my aisle seat. Having finally gone through all my photos from my trip, here are a few of my favorite moments frozen in time.
Within minutes of landing in Maui I was off for my first adventure – ironically, one that took me back up in the air. My very first helicopter ride gave me a birds eye view of West Maui and Moloka‘i.
Everything Glitters
I like this shot because it looks as though the sun is dancing on the water, creating a glitter effect. Having not gone to a beach all summer, I felt just as carefree as the sun’s rays.
Hello Maui!
I’m not sure I could ever get used to views like this but while I had them, I took full advantage while en route to the Atlantis Submarine, which would take me 100 feet underwater.
A Peaceful Sunset
This was one of my first sunsets in Maui and it completely reflects how I was feeling – calm, thankful and at peace. Plus, I had a sunburn so a few hours out of the sun was not a bad thing!
Road to Nowhere
From the top of Haleakala National Park, it was hard to tell where this road ended. It hardly mattered though because I was about to find out for myself as I started my trek downhill.
Staring Down the Sun
One of the most beautiful sunsets happened moments before our Luau began. I had a few moments alone before others began to run over to take a few photos of their own.
Afternoon Thunder
After endless days of sunshine, it finally rained during my last few hours on the island. When the clouds had departed, there was a quiet stillness in the air and I could see the setting sun in the distance.
Local Indulgence
I’m not sure why I like this picture so much but I do nonetheless. This local girl seemed so cool as she lazily sat down for her afternoon shave ice. I never got to see what flavors she ordered.
