Snakedance Condos, a Great Family Travel Choice at Taos Ski Valley

During our January trip to Taos New Mexico, we stayed in the town of Taos at Dreamcatcher, an adorable B&B with loads a’ charm before heading up to Taos Ski Valley to taste a bit of Taos skiing, which I did ‘poorly’ right after a major snowfall. Let’s just say I wasn’t geared up right and was wearing dark tinted goggles on an overly cloudy day, so couldn’t see a thing in front of me. That said, I had a blast and wrote about my experience, a post which is loaded with tons of fabulous photos of my experience on the mountain, limited visibility and all.

An incredibly convenient place to stay while skiing at Taos is Snakedance Condominiums, which we tested out during our stay. It literally sits alongside the slopes and you can get studio, one and two bedroom options as well as a two bedroom/loft option.

Located in the center of the village at Taos Ski Valley, it’s also only ten yards away from Lift One quad, the main access point to the mountain. Talk about convenient!! It’s also walking distance to the shops, restaurants and bars of the Valley.

The condos are a nice blend of old-world alpine classic and modern convenience.  Below are a few examples of some of the condos they offer – note they make great a great choice for family travel given their size, modern amenities, fireplace and full kitchen. Our condo also came stocked with plenty of games and books.

Each Snakedance Studio Condo includes a full bath and is individually decorated so they’re all a little different — cozy gas fireplace and French doors that open up onto a Juliet Balcony are common however and each unit comes with a fully equipped kitchen with granite countertops. The Studio Unit comes with a queen wall bed that will fold up out of the way leaving a full sofa in its place. There’s also wifi in each unit as well as satellite TV and a DVD player.

Each Two-Bedroom Condo includes two full baths and comes with a king/split king in each bedroom and a queen pull out sofa bed in the living room. Nearby is the Hondo Restaurant and a bar, a spa facility on the premises (YAY!), ski valet with ski storage and boot dryers, concierge service, market and liquor store. There’s also a courtesy van service to major airports (call them to check on the details — see below).

There’s also a fabulous high end restaurant at the top of the mountain called Bavarian which we recommend. The food was delicious, ambiance a blend of romantic and old world and the service top-notch. Be sure to read my write-up, which is packed with great photos of our meal.

We were fortunate to be there for the annual Snakedance Winter Wine Festival, which took place this year from January 28th – January 31, 2015. Be sure to check their site for the dates for next year. The event was a fabulous way to end an evening – there was plenty of wine options and also food bites and snacks for perfect pairing.

Two thumbs up! Snakedance Condos is a place we’d particularly recommend for family travel — it’s a great place to take your family for on or off-season skiing.
