I’ve always been a fan of Fairmont hotels so wanted to check out their San Jose California location which I had an opportunity to do during a recent trip to Silicon Valley for a conference. Their property is in the heart of downtown San Jose, making it an ideal location for those wanting to experience the urban part of San Jose, while also convenient to activities in the greater area. There are two towers, divided by a pedestrian walkway – note that the newer tower has more King sized bed options, so if that matters to be you, be sure to mention it when you book.
All the rooms are fairly spacious in size, even the standard sized rooms, which I checked out in the main building before moving to the newer tower — both have views depending on your interest. The newer tower tends to be a little quieter as it’s away from the main reception area and bar. The rooms are elegantly decorated with one oversized modern marble bathroom featuring a separate walk-in shower and tub.
Views are over the Santa Cruz Mountains or the city skyline so you have a choice of ambiance depending on whether you’re an urban or nature lover. Deluxe rooms are located on floors 10 through 20 in the Main Building and floors 9 through 14 in the South Tower, which is the newer tower. All Deluxe rooms have in room safes, CD players, advanced temperature controls and private building access.
Signature rooms are located on the 4th floor of the Main Building, which include a King bed and are therefore suited for single or double occupancy. All Signature rooms have a private patio adjacent, with direct access to the 60-ft. outdoor swimming pool. The 186 square foot patio is furnished with a sun lounger, two easy chairs and a coffee table. Sweet!
The Junior suites are located on the 3rd, 4th and 5th floors of the Main Building. They feature either one king bed, two double beds or two queen beds and are therefore suited for single or double occupancy, couples and families. All Junior suites are luxurious open-concept suites (no division between bedroom and sitting area). BTW, the room also has a walk in closet. This matters to some of us….and you know who you are!
The One Bedroom suites are located on the 6th through 9th floors in the Main Building, or 3rd through 8th floors in the South Tower. They consist of a separate bedroom with a king bed and a parlor area and are therefore suited for multiple occupancy, families or the business traveler hosting small meetings up to six persons. The parlor is equipped with a 32″ HDTV, working desk, a speakerphone with multiple lines, a cordless phone, a separate modem connection, a sofa and an easy chair. Additionally, in the Main Building One Bedroom suites, there is a pullout Sofa bed.
The Deluxe King Suites consist of a separate bedroom with a king bed and a parlor area and are therefore suited for multiple occupancy, families or the business traveler hosting small meetings up to six persons. There is also a pull out sofabed.
The International Luxury Suite features a single jetted whirlpool tub in the bathroom and a small seating area in the bedroom. This contemporary California decor suite also offers a decorative fireplace, hospitality-size coat closet, powder rooms and a dining room table that seats six. The suite is suitable for hospitality parties up to 50 people. For added convenience there is a sofabed as well as numerous couches and chairs that seat up to ten people.
The Fairmont Luxury Suite also features that fabulous single jetted whirlpool tub and a small seating area in the bedroom. The suite includes a fireplace as well but GET THIS – it also includes a baby grand piano, hospitality-size coat closet, powder room and dining room table that seats eight. For Hospitality purposes the room can accommodate up to 40 guests. For added convenience there is a sofabed and numerous couches and chairs that seat up to ten people. Bring it on…..this would be a great option for a wedding party also or a small intimate gathering – the piano is a nice added bonus.
Additional suites include their luxurious suite, which is has a contemporary California design and the signature suite, which offers HSIA and consist of a separate bedroom and a parlour area. They are suited for multiple occupancy- families or the business traveler hosting small meetings up to six persons. Each Signature suite has a 286 square foot private patio with direct access to the 60 foot outdoor swimming pool. The patio is furnished with two sun loungers and a coffee table- four easy chairs and a cocktail table suitable for casual dining.
The outside pool area, which sadly I was too busy to try out….
My only wish is that I had more time as the trip was a bit rushed – this means that I did not get an opportunity to try out their spa, restaurant, bar, pool or gym and hence the reason for a more factual write-up than a personal one. Next time, I’ll try to stay an extra day to take in the facilities, try the food and walk the property.
