La Casa de Mayten: A Grassroots Social Project in Chincha Peru

Comments Off on La Casa de Mayten: A Grassroots Social Project in Chincha Peru

There’s a special fundraising event in San Francisco on February 12, 2011 to benefit La Casa de Mayten (LCDM), a unique, independent grassroots social project based in Chincha, Peru. Since the 2007 earthquake in Chincha, LCDM has grown from a disaster relief effort to a long-term project focused on lasting initiatives and free services for physical, emotional, and psychological health, educational violence awareness and prevention programs, community organizing and building, and cultural-outreach and exchange programs for kids in marginalized neighborhoods.

All proceeds from this fundraiser will fund the following (and more) ongoing projects:

– Anti-violence & integral health campaigns
– Free workshops & arts education for kids
– Resources for young mothers in women’s shelters
– Buying land and building a community cultural center as LCDM’s permanent home, which will serve many neighborhoods
– Support for flood-devastated communities in Huacarpay, Peru (outside of Cusco)
