A close friend writes to me regarding my recent Eiffel Tower post. A former New York Times writer, geek, accountant/finance guy and now a mut of all things, he says, “one of my favorite things to do when I lived in Paris was skate from my flat crosstown to the tower, sit there, watch and wait for it to go out. 1:00, I think?

The energy shift is amazing when it goes dark. I’m getting chills now. One time while madly skating home, a cop pulled up next to me, and yelled for me to get on the sidewalk. I looked in at the driver who was smiling and said “Voulez-vous faire la course?” Wanna race?! He gunned it and left me in the dust and no doubt left his partner annoyed.”
