This year Cape Town’s International Tattoo Convention will move from the CTICC to the Pavilion Conference Centre at the V&A Waterfront. The setting is more intimate and visitors will be able to enjoy a much more personalized and unique experience. Based on the enormous success of the previous two years, Southern Ink Xposure (SIX), the event’s proud hosts, have managed to up the number of world renowned tattoo artists to over 50.
Artists from as far afield as Italy, Brazil, Holland and Japan will grace the stage and wow the audiences with their mastery of needle art. Some of the top artists include:
- Megan Hoogland: A doyenne from Minneapolis, US with over 14 years experience in colour and black and white tattoo artistry.
- Milo “Mr Lucky” Marcer: One of Cape Town’s own ink gurus with a background in fine arts, design and illustration, and more than 20 years experience in the tattoo industry.
- Demian Cervera: Venezuela-born and London-based is relatively new to the tattoo industry in that he’s been a recognised artist for only about ten years. But his recognition is well-earned. He works primarily as a free lance artist and has been requested at some of the best tattoo parlours in the world.
As if seeing the world’s tattoo greats perform wasn’t enough, SIX also promises entertainment that is out of this world. Previous attendees will know that tattoo artists know how to rock; so on 29 January SIX will host Live Fast Die Last at Zula Lounge in Long Street, where some of South Africa’s top bands will perform. And on 30 January there is ultimate after party to end all after parties.
