Two Giant Illuminated Fish on the Beach: Holiday Lights Fort Lauderdale Style

Holiday lights in New York and Taiwan are done a little more traditionally than how you might find lights done in Florida, especially Fort Lauderdale-style. The two giant illuminated fish on Fort Lauderdale Beach, at the corner of A1A at Las Olas, is constructed from 20,000 recycled bottles. The one-of-a-kind display to celebrate the holidays and highlight environmental sustainability stands at over 20 feet tall and 25 feet wide.

The larger-than-life fish were constructed using recycled bottles collected locally from hundreds of special events, restaurants, stores and businesses.  When night falls, the fish are illuminated with a rainbow of vibrant colors, creating a captivating “must see” visual attraction for residents and visitors.

The inspiration for the signature sculpture came from a similar piece developed on Botafogo Beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil as part of the 2012 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development.
