We’re not new to rigid and sturdy spinners but we are new to the DELSEY luggage brand. Thrilled to be given the opportunity to review a few of their items, we decided to opt for soft cases rather than hard cases in this case, largely because I feel that soft case bags provides more flexibility, especially for female travelers who want some give and take in their bags.
That said, they do offer a wide array of options, including hard case rollers in fun and creative colors as well.
We decided to test out their line they call the Pilot. The Pilot 4.0 to be exact. We got a 29 inch bag in to test out in green although if you’re a bit more conservative, you can opt for traditional black as well.
We love that this spinner is expandable and made from DuraTec fabric, which helps to repel water, dirt and oil. They include a patented zip called SECURITECH (yes, really!), which they tout is 41 times more resilient than a standard zipper. We’ve only taken one trip with the bag so far, so can’t speak to its longevity yet, but so far, so good.
Built to modern standards, there’s an included TSA-accepted lock, recessed wheels which means more packing space (I always need it despite how short my trip happens to be) and its classic and elegant design had me at hello.
The next feature is the best DELSEY add-on feature — they offer a patented overweight indicator in the side carry handle. Truth be told, if I had known about that bonus earlier on, we would have gotten some DELSEY bags in much sooner. What a FABULOUS feature!
We also love their rubberized non-slip grips on the trolley handle and integrated ID tag. When you open the bag, you immediately notice the soft-touch lining, shoe pockets and removable suiter — not all bags include a removable addition for your suit anymore, which was always standard with bags for as long as I can remember.
The DELSEY Pilot 4.0 has tie-down straps and two shoe pockets in the main compartment and of as mentioned, a removable, tri-fold garment sleeve.
Then we decided to look at one other line for comparisons — the Cruise Soft 25 inch Expandable Spinner Suiter Trolley is a great sized bag and super useful for those shorter trips.
The Cruise Soft trolley is also made from from a super durable 1680D ballistic nylon for long lasting use, yet one of its greatest benefits is that albeit durable, it’s also a very lightweight bag. This bag offers double spinner wheels which helps when you’re trying to catch your flight and you happen to be in one of those massive international airports that can take a half an hour to get from one area to another.
There’s a separate easy-access compartment which allows for quick access to shoes, a jacket or to store return-home laundry. Like the Pilot 4.0 bags, this gem includes an overweight indicator built in side carry handle shows if bag weighs over 50 pounds to avoid any of those overweight charges.
Useful for avid travelers, this bag offers two large exterior pockets for maximum organization and storage as well as a top, side and easy to grab bottom handle for lifting a fully packed case which is super useful when you’re on a crowded flight and need to get your bag over your seat quickly and efficiently.
There’s a zippered divider with hanger clip, zippered pockets and water resistant pocket inside and we love the fact that it comes in a fun and vibrant blue, an earthy brown and standard black.
Lastly, I wanted to mention a DELSEY spinner tote bag that I personally found stunning. Why? It’s elegant, the perfect size for long weekends and it has silent-running double spinner wheels, which we love.
The Montmartre Spinner Tote Bag may not always be available I’m told but it still was at the time of doing this review, so we wanted to test it out. It’s made from 1680D nylon for long lasting use and offers two very useful exterior zippered pockets for last minute items you forgot to pack. There’s also an included padded sleeve for up to a 15.6″ laptop and sleeve for tablet.
We found it to be oh so elegant. There’s a smart band to slide bagover trolley tubes and inside, there are useful tie-down straps and organizer to minimize the shifting of your items while you’re on the move and during your trip. What’s also great is their included identification plate for tracking and a removable ID tag, especially useful for frequent travelers.
While we only reviewed soft cases this time around, many of their hard case offerings come in elegant styles and lighter colors as well as more traditional grays, blacks and navy blues.
DELSEY has been around since 1946, so they have some longevity to them as a brand. Starting out with leather cases for cameras and photographic equipment, they started making DELSEY luggage in 1970 and have been succeeding ever since.
