If you’re staying in Sabah in Malaysia on the island of Borneo, it’s highly likely you’ll have heard of proboscis monkeys, known for being wild, live in the jungle and for their long noses. More importantly, they are native to the island of Borneo (Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam and Indonesia), the only place in the world you can see them outside a zoo.
Borneo has lots of jungles and therefore lots of tour companies organize monkey and Orang Utan trips. If you stay in the city of Kota Kinabalu, you can book a tour through many of the local operators in town or hire a car and drive out to Beaufort Town directly. The tour cost 150 Ringitts for a 7 hour trip, which included fireflies, the transport to and from your hotel, the boats, afternoon tea and a full dinner.
You arrive at Klias Wetlands Park where they’ll provide afternoon tea (this includes buffet food).Once you board the boat, the guide will alert you when the proboscis monkeys are viewable. Aside from monkeys, you’ll also see crocodiles.
As you can see, they have long noses and long tails; you’ll see them hanging from trees, sitting on trees and swinging from tree to tree.
