Research intern Kaia Clarke discusses how the average woman farmer in sub-Saharan Africa is responsible for not only growing food but also for collecting water and firewood–putting in a 16 hour workday. But all across the continent, many innovative projects are helping women gain access to resources and technologies that make their daily tasks more manageable, such as improved hoes, planters, and grinding mills; rainwater harvesting systems and lightweight transport devises.
