I spent time with Crescendo Olive Oils Daniel Weber at the EAT Vancouver event earlier this month. Originally from Switzerland, he lives and breathes Crescendo at their Canadian location. Below is a sampling of what they offer and I tasted a handful of them during a long day of eating. Below the various choices of olive oils worth knowing about is an interview I did with Daniel on-site.
CRESCENDO Olive Oil “Perseus”
A low acid content and the nice subtle flavour of fresh grass caracterises this extra virgin olive oil, which is made purely of olives from the “Koroneiki” species. Produced on one of the Greek islands – the ancient island of Crete.
CRESCENDO Olive Oil “Divino”
This extra virgin olive oil is ecologically cultivated and manufactured in Spain in the region of Andalusia. First-class quality – directly extracted from olives, exclusively using a mechanical procedure.
CRESCENDO Olive Oil “Antico Sapore”
Cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil from Sicily. This golden green olive oil with its intensive taste is unfiltered and has a low acid content. Produced in accordance with ecological guidelines.
CRESCENDO Olive Oil “Etrusco”
This extra virgin olive oil is made out of handpicked olives of high quality; its low acid content makes it one of the best olive oils.
CRESCENDO Olive Oil “Frant’olio”, cold pressed
A smell of the Tuscany is flattering out of the bottle with a delicate aroma and an exquisite flavour – typical piquant, reminiscent of artichoke and almond. The seal of quality I.G.P. stands for highest quality and as a guarantee of origin.
CRESCENDO Olive Oil “Angelino”
This unfiltered Italian extra virgin olive oil comes from the national park “Parco Nationale del Gargano” in Apulia. It’s produced from carefully harvested olives from the variety Ogliorola und Coratina. It stands out due to its fresh green color, its fruity and aromatic nose and a mild fruity taste on the palate. In addition it has a peppery finish for a short time after the harvest. Suited perfectly to fresh salads, vegetable and fresh fish.
CRESCENDO Olive Oil “Novello”
This unfiltered, superior category olive oil of a shimmering green colour, has a fresh grass-green aroma and peppery notes. “Novello” is from the latest harvest, directly from olives and solely by mechanical means. It harmonises with all salads and Italian dishes. From the olive varieties Frantoiano, Leccino and Moraiolo.
CRESCENDO Olive Oil “Cru Raineri”
Being produced from Taggiasca Olives this olive oil goes perfectly with any salads of nutty flavors or mushroom dishes. Oils made from the Taggiasca Olive are, in general, characterized as mild and fruity with low bitterness and sharpness.
