Balancing tranquility and healthful living with a harmony of yoga, inner dance, raw food and sound healing, take a step back with a 3-day retreat with Monica Eleazar-Manzano at Bahay Kalipay Retreat Center in Puerto Princesa Palawan, April 22-24.
Some time back, I asked Monica to share with me a raw-food recipe to get a whiff of what they partake in Bahay Kalipay. I share this once again for those who want to prepare something meat-free this weekend:
DANIW’S CHEESY-GARLIC HUMMUS RECIPE
1. Soak 1 cup of garbanzo beans in water for 24hrs.
2. Blend the following in a food processor or a blender: soaked garbanzos, 4 cloves of garlic, 1-2 tbs of Braggs Liquid Aminos, 1-2 tsp of lime/kalamansi (or try Bragg’s apple cider if you already have it in your pantry!)
3. Drizzle with a bit of olive oil .
4. For that cheesy flavor, add a dash of Braggs Nutritional Yeast
5. Adjust with salt, cayenne pepper and/or black pepper to taste.
6. You can add 1 tbs of any of your favorite herbs.
With the pristine landscape of Palawan as your backdrop, it’s a good time for a period of cleansing, stillness and serenity. For details, contact Monica at 0915 – 294 3441 / monica.eleazar@gmail.com.

For over a decade, this blogger’s career as an ESL instructor provided a multicultural atmosphere working with diplomats, celebrities, nuns, priests, politicians as well as high school and college students from all over the world. When she grows up, she hopes to cook for a living to celebrate her family’s culinary legacy.
