If you haven’t heard of the Baruto Archipelago islands yet then it’s high-time you checked them out. It’s a group of five islands off Mozambique’s unspoiled and exotic tropical coast; a perfect destination for a dream holiday. They are Bazaruto, Benguerra, Maraque, Banque and Santa Carolina.
Mozambique stretches about 2500km along the east coast of Africa, bordered by the warm Indian Ocean, and this cluster of tropical paradise.
The white beach sand, turquoisey warm waters and island palm trees will lull you into a deep form of relaxation you’ll never want to leave. It is a protected National Park with undeveloped and pristine settings. They are the nesting grounds for beautiful black-winged flamingoes and other wildlife. Experience the real island life by taking a trip across the waters on a traditional Dhow boat or even go horse-riding across a deserted beach; both are popular activities on the islands. There are no roads, no shops and no tourist attractions; this is the perfect place to “get away from it all”.
You can enjoy a plethora of water activities on the islands – snorkel along the pink corals, catch some dinner with some deep sea fishing, go diving and introduce yourself to the exotic underwater life or try your hand at some salt-water fly-fishing. The best fishing spot is the deep Mozambique Channel so make sure you visit it. There’s no need to rush yourself though, the island pace is whatever you want it to be.
If you’re a nature lover you’ll definitely find time to visit the Quirimbas Archipelago further up North. It consists of 32 totally undeveloped islands.
The lodges dotted around the islands are unimposing yet luxurious. They sit right on the beach and the staff is ready to cater to your every need. This is the perfect destination for honeymoons, snorkeling expeditions and family vacations.
The island cuisine is exemplary with fresh seafood in abundance. Try some succulent Mozambican prawns or deliciously fresh sushi as you sip on chilled white wine or colourful cocktails. You can enjoy breakfast watching the sunrise, laze around in a hammock after lunchtime and spend dinner watching the sun set slowly over the distant horizon. Here you don’t have a worry in the world. Embrace it. Enjoy it.
