Hardanger its one of Norway’s great fjords and the below photos are from a long weekend at a cabin in Hardanger. Further down are some ideas for things to explore in the region, most useful for summer and fall months before the snow settles in.
- TROLLTUNGA: Troll Tongue is one of the most spectacular mountain formations in Norway. It lies 1100 meters, approximately 700 meters above Ringedalsvatnet in Skjeggedal. Here is the amazing and aerial views. The hike to Trolltunga is in the mountains, taking roughly 8-10 hours.
- GLACIER ON SKIING IN VAL: This is a trip into another world! In Hardanger, it well suited for hiking on glaciers. Glacier from Jondal with Educational and Nature Trail, www.folgefonni-breforarlag.no or from Odda with Flat Earth Adventures: www.flatearth.no. Advice of course: do not walk on the glacier without expert.
- FOUR STUNNING WATERFALLS, HUSEDALEN: There are four beautiful waterfalls close to each other on the trip through Husedalen from Kinsarvik to Hardangervidda.
- OPPLEVODDA: Here, you can experience stunning nature and history with activities to Tysso Via Ferrata in the footsteps of the navvy. You can take a climb along the pipelines from the Norwegian Museum of Hydropower and Industry Museum, 4-6 h Himmelstigen to Trolltunga. Combined cycle, climb and hike to the impressive mountain formations is roughly a 8-10 hour guided trip.
- FLAT EARTH ADVENTURES: Flat Earth Adventures offers a range of daily activities during the summer season including sea kayaking, rafting, water jump or a full day glacier trip.
- HARDANGERVIDDA NATIONAL PARK: Hardangervidda National Park is the largest national park in Norway and a great place for experienced hikers and for those who wish to try mountain resort for the first time.
- FOLGEFONNA NATIONAL: The glacier skiing in Val d’ is exquisite with many other exciting outdoor activities. There is Folgefonna skiing from May onward, snowshoe hikes, glacier hiking, ice climbing and staying overnight in cabins at Fonnabu and Holmaskjer.
- SEA KAYAKING IN JONDAL: Here, you can hire a kayak at the tourist information in Jondal and paddle a trip on the fjord with or without a guide. Try like a GPS kajakksti.
- ON THE BAY: HARDANGERFJORD: Here you can do daily cruises departing from Norheimsund.
- FJORD CRUISE WITH VETERAN: Experience the Hardangerfjord with Veteran. The boat leaves two different routes in summer 2013, Along the fjord on both trips, you can go ashore and see explore the area.
