Recently, I had an opportunity to visit Red Rocks Amphitheatre, which is part of Red Rocks Park, which is located near Morrison, Colorado, some 20 minutes or so west of Denver. The venue includes 868 acres of deer, dinosaurs, pines and prairie, geological wonders and spectacular vistas.
At 6,450 feet above sea level, Red Rocks Park is a unique transitional zone where the Great Plains meet the Rocky Mountains.
Red Rocks Amphitheatre is a geological phenomenon – the only naturally-occurring, acoustically perfect amphitheatre in the world. Here, they hold concerts regularly and everyone from Sting and The Beatles, to opera stars and U2, has played on this magical, spiritual and emotional stage.
When I was there, the American military were doing their own drills and regardless of how close I got to them, they didn’t budge…perfectly still for this photo and the dozens of others I shot of them and around them.
This summer, a host of majors will be performing as well as some performers who may not be as well known as the list above, but are well worth seeing, especially in this rich ampitheatre setting.
For example, Avett Bros plays on June 30, followed by a July 4 performance from Blues Traveler with Fitz & The Tantrums. On July 8, the amazing music of John Williams will present, and the Beach Boys – 50th Anniversary Tour will also hit in July. John Denver Tribute w/John Adams Band & CO Chamber Orchestra will perform on July 13 and one I’m so sorry to be missing with be an an Evening with Yanni Under the Stars on July 14.
Just to give you a l’il perspective.
To remind you about the beauty of ‘stillness’ as noted above.
