The World’s Tiniest Cinema is Actually Solar-Powered!

134575_origThis is pretty zany – a cinema that only seat eight people! That’s right – eight!

Officially the world’s smallest movie-house – this eight-seater is entirely solar-powered. The Sol Cinema is tiny (it seats eight adults or twelve children) and while it may have a very small screen in terms of movie theatres – the novelty of watching a film in such a crazy cinema alone should attract film fundis from far and wide.

The cinema was converted from a two berth 1960’s caravan when it was commissioned by Undercurrents the media arts charity. The charity group encourages people to make environmental films so it’s no wonder this was their idea!

The system runs on four large lithium ion batteries which are charged by two 120W solar panels.

If the Sol Cinema was commercially viable it’d be interesting to see how many people would purchase a film house such as this – although it may be quite small, and expensive at first, the fact that it runs on solar would appeal to those trying to preserve the Planet’s energy.

Perfect for home viewing, the Sol Cinema could even become more popular than most traditional movie theatres – 8 people is the perfect amount or a personal and intimate setting – people wouldn’t have to wait in long queues for their drinks and popcorn, there’d always be loo paper in the bathrooms and there’s very little chance that there’ll be an annoying person talking or chomping too loudly.
