Cigarette At a dinner in New York recently, industry pal Alan Brody told me about his new book: Cigarette Seduction – Inner Quitting. Alan takes an interesting approach that has more to do with your emotional attachment to what the ‘cigarette means’ rather than an addiction to nicotine and habit itself. He also takes into account whether parents smoked and more importantly, which brands they smoked.

Example of his take on a twenty year old woman who started smoking Winston at 20 and now smokes Marlboro at 50. He notes that her original choice was a way to ‘reach men’ and her current choice, a ‘martial brand,’ suggests interest in controlling them. Consider what he might say to someone who started with Winston at age 12 and currently smokes Virginia Slims at 43. It is an interesting perspective and worth exploring particularly if you smoke or know people who do.
