Singer-Songwriter Jessica Lea Mayfield and Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys Collaborate on Single for Soundtrack: “I first heard Jessica Lea Mayfield at Spaceland in Los Angeles, opening for another band. I instantly knew we had found a voice for the film,” said the film’s debut director Aaron Rottinghaus. “During preproduction on APART we discussed seeing if Jessica would cover The Brian Jonestown Massacre song entitled (David Bowie I Love You) Since I Was Six, for a specific, dark and moody romantic scene. Her effort, in collaboration with Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys was simply amazing,” he continued.
With SXSW firing on all cylinders in terms of film, interactive and music, the filmmakers released this special song digitally and directly as a way to embrace the spirit of the festival, as APART will screen at the Paramount Theatre as an official SXSW selection. Jessica Lea Mayfield will also be playing as a SXSW Showcase act on the same day, March 17th, 2011, at St. David’s Historic Sanctuary in Austin.
