The Kitchen Gives Innovative Artists a Place to CREATE!

The Kitchen is not your Mom’s everyday space used for whipping up 3 solid meals.  The Kitchen, rather, is a non-profit, interdisciplinary organization that gives the innovative artist the opportunity to create and present new work in the safe space of their “kitchen” in the form of video, music, dance, performance, film and literature.

So in that spirit, on November 26, 2012, The Kitchen is having a Benefit Art Auction!  This auction will be held at The Kitchen, 512 West 19th Street, New York, NY and the event begins at 7 p.m.

This organization has been an important force in creating the cultural landscape of this country for more than three decades.  It was founded as an artist collective in 1971 by Woody and Steina Vasulka and two years later became a non-profit.

In their quest to help support the emerging artist, The Kitchen has launched the careers of many artists who have defined the American avant-garde.  Some of those artists would include Vito Acconici, Constance de Jong, Gary Hill, Kiki Smith and Meredith Monk.  Today, The Kitchen is an internationally acclaimed arts institution still known for its commitment to experimental work and for its generous community outreach programs to help instill the creative spirit in the next generation of artists to come.
