As a handy stop over city on route from Veliko Tarnovo (a splendid city where I stayed in the Hotel Comfort) en-route to Sofia, I decided to head to Plovdiv, a classic Bulgarian city with a real ancient Roman feel to it
I discovered the Old Plovdiv Guest House, run by a local lad named Hristo and housed in a lovely antique building. There was something endearing about it that gave Plovdiv that cultural edge I didn’t expect.
If you are exploring the Old Town, the location of the Old Plovdiv Guest House is great. Located in the heart of the Old City, you are within walking distance to everywhere you’d be interested in seeing.
The guest house is also on a quiet street with the main Old Town sights all nearby – the amphitheatre, the ruined fortress, the Cathedral of the Assumption etc.
What’s great about Old Town Plovdiv is the pure vibrancy and historical character of the buildings. The Old Plovdiv Guest House is one such building. Character and charm creeps through it’s wooden old school walls.
Breakfast is included. Coffee, tea, fresh juice, cereal, breads, and a range of fresh fruit, as well as a full breakfast platter, complete with tomatoes, olives, cucumber, salami, ham and cheese.
There’s a bar in the back and they also offer free wifi — there’s a cosy lounge upstairs where you can catch up on work or email.
