Great Artesian Finds in Budapest: From Jewelry to Earthenware

Comments Off on Great Artesian Finds in Budapest: From Jewelry to Earthenware

I discovered the craftsmanship (earthenware craftwmanship that is) Szilagyikeramia in Hungary at the Buda Castle in Budapest recently…they had a table set up as part of an Arts Fair displaying everything from plates and tea pots to cups and candle holders.

It started out as a family business and then they moved the workshop to Szentendre, which is a small quaint town about an hour’s drive outside Budapest. (other craftsmen and artists have also moved there).

They specialize in high temperature fired stoneware and porcelain objects and now even have a website where people can order online.

I love their designs and quality of their work and wished I had more time (and space in my luggage) to bring back a coffee and tea pot :-( Sigh.

They also make an interesting wine set with matching stone glasses for 5,400 HUF.

Another great discovery while in Budapest was Magyarkeramia Galerie in Budapest. (Located at Falk Miksa  utca 24-26).  They make silver ornaments and silver articles with their main focus being restored old silver canteens of cutlery.  Their offerings range from tea pots to antique silver to jewelry.
