This small but hearty outlet has been operating in Muizenberg for 8 years. It’s the baby of the surf schools (the others having been around for at least two decades), but the owners have got passion. Their store has a very islandy feel to it, with wooden benches, chairs and tables outside inviting club members and visitors to have a rest.
With a wide range of learner soft boards Surf Shack Surf Shop is an ideal choice for the very novice and young. The owner, David, says that they have taught children as young as 5 or 6 years old but he thinks that 8 years old is the perfect age for the kids to get their flippers wet.
Surf Shack offers an intimate surfing lesson environment (never more than 4 people per lesson) so that each individual, even in a group situation, is safe and gets ample attention from the tutor.
The website states its got everything a surfer needs: “experienced instructors, excellent equipment, hot showers, coffee bar and plenty of stoke!” and they know how to make their clients feel like they’re part of a family with their Surf Shack Surf Club. The mission of the club is to offer members the perfect surfing environment that caters to people wanting to experience a true surf lifestyle.
Club members get the use of all the top equipment and facilities and get to lounge around in their coffee bar, while watching surf movies on TV. Whether you’re in the water or chilling at the Surf Shack couch you can be assured a surfer’s experience.
