Last week my father and I went to the Cape of Good Hope National Park to take a walk to the lighthouse. It was a perfect day to be outside and after we had wheezed our way up the stone steps to take in the stunning view we ambled back down to the parking lot in need of some nourishment. Of course the only option we had was to find a table for two at the Two Oceans Restaurant, and that we did.
It was still quiet when we were shown to our seats and our waitress quickly took our drinks order. We sat back in our seats and took in the view; a panoramic vision of the Indian Ocean and the bays and capes beyond.
We had a look at the menu while a insistently friendly bird looked on. He had perched on the end of our table and was adamant that he’d be joining us. There was not much by way of a simple lunch-meal. We asked for a beef burger and our waitress responded that they had none. It was before rush hour so I’m still unsure as to why that was. We both finally settled on pastas; mine a bolognaise and my dad’s a vegetarian.
Suddenly a large number of tourists arrived looking for some lunch and our quiet and calm table was in the midst of loud-mouthed visitors “oohing” and “aahing” about the things they had just seen. I didn’t mind too much because I love it when a tourist enjoys the gems our country has to offer but I can imagine that the bustle and noise would annoy some other patrons.
We didn’t have to wait long for our meals and when they did arrive I was impressed with the portions. My father said he thoroughly enjoyed his dish I wasn’t too impressed with mine. It was a good spaghetti bolognaise but considering I was sitting at the Two Oceans Restaurant where everyday hundreds of people come streaming in, I was expecting a delicious meal.
On the whole my dining experience was enjoyable but not fantastic. I do note that it would be difficult to find a table with such a magnificent view anywhere else in the world.
If you do happen to be at Cape Point and are looking for a bite to each but would prefer not to have a sit-down lunch there is also a cafeteria that sells pizza adjacent to the restaurant. They also serve cool drinks and coffees.
After we had settled the bill we headed back to our car to explore some more of the vast open land within the Cape Point park. My dad was out to find a tortoise so a-hunting we went.
