Mr Sakitumi (aka Sean Ou Tim) played with a number of different bands, including Lark and Closet Snare, before branching off on his own to create tunes involving live sampling, FX, turntable scratching and bass guitar. He refers to his live performances as “live Hiptronica”, and is set to release an EP early next year. He also and has a few tricks and gifts up his sleeves for his fans.
Mr Sakitumi will release his debut EP in February 2011 courtesy of African Dope Records, and as a prequel to the event he’s giving away three tracks for free. The first, “Element of Supplies” (play listed on Expression FM 87.7 in the UK), is out now and you can download it for free on African Dope’s website.
His digital releases will culminate in a limited edition album which will include extra features, tracks and videos. There is also talk of a special vinyl version being released, but no more has been said on the old-school record front.
Mr Sakitumi has been busy: he recently premiered his self-made Franklinstein video on Don’t Party. The video is a behind-the-scenes sneak-peak into the making of a track and is a shot-by-shot encounter of each featured instrument. The short film gives viewers an intimate glimpse of how Mr Sakitumi works his magic in-studio.
“The idea was that I write and record a track from scratch, but as I put down each part, I also capture the video aspect as well”, said Mr Sakitumi. The video then shows Mr Sakitumi putting all the separate parts together to make the full track. “I basically tried to play a bunch of instruments in the process. Just a fun idea for me to try out” said Mr Sakitumi.
You can check the video out yourself on Don’t Party.
Live stage performer, producer and multi instrumentalist, Sean Ou Tim started out as Mr Sakitumi in 2006 and never really looked back. He sees no boundaries in terms of his own performance and continuously pushes himself into the heart of new genres while still coming to grips with the reins of others. He is an experimental artist, and his genuine flexibility helps him to reach musical places he has never touched before.
