Mr Cat and the Jackal Release Cool Music Video

It has taken Mr Cat and the Jackal over a year to complete their second studio album and finally it is here (well almost). The album was set to be launched in February 2011 but due to a “leaky ship” fans will have to wait a little bit longer to get their hands on the golden stuff; the new album.

But have no fear little ‘uns, the new music video launch is still going ahead as planned. On February 11 the video for The Devil Always Wants to Dance will be released for your eyes and ears at the Klein Libertas Theatre in Stellenbosch. The video is for the first single off the new album Sins and Siren Songs.

The band spent 13 months experiencing all manner of things together while trying to create a product that they could be proud of. After building new instruments, gaining some weight, getting a tattoo and losing some friends among themselves that product is finally here.

The album was produced by Abrie du Plessis and MCATJ and is a six-track Fresh Meat Studios offering. And it promises to deliver sounds unlike any other; with a crazy bunch of boys making their own instruments, what else can you expect? Some of the instruments include a banjo-lapsteel guitar, a garden saw, human sj\kull and a box o’ rox (it’s not difficult to discern what that is).

SAMA Award winner Darryl Torr is tasked with the mixing of the sound, and the album, which was due to be released in February, will now only come out in March sometime.

When talking about what the album is about the band explained it as a discussion on social suspicion among other things; “each aria, ballad, canticle, carol, chant, chorus, ditty, lyric, melody, refrain, tune and verse has been very meticulously crafted to sculpt the audio landscape for you to take home and wander in” Mr Cat and the Jackal said.

And the music video set to be released at Klein Libertas was shot in Phillipi. It was directed by Thomas Ferreira (music-video-maker for bands such as aKing, Jax Panik and Die Heuwels Fantasties), and nothing is known about what is to be expected of it. Looks like Mr Cat and the Jackal plan on giving its fans a fun ride filled with surprises.
