‘Tis the festive season here in South Africa and there are some great events happening all over the country that should not be missed!

Carols go jazz: This soulful jazz-inspired Christmas carol evening will take place at Howard College theatre, KwaZulu Natal on 17 and 18 December. It focuses on a new twist to traditional carols by adding jazz elements and some swing. Standard Bank Young Artist award winner, Melanie Scholtz, will be performing for guests.

Tickets are R100 at the door or through Computicket.

First National Bank presents Dolphins by Starlight: This year FNB’s spectacular event, Dolphins by Starlight, is set to wow audiences at the uShaka Marine World in Durban. You can see this splashy event between 14 and 18 December. Kids will love this show which, according to Wayne Scott who hosts it, really embraces the spirit of Christmas.

Tickets are R95 for adults and R75 for children under 12 and are available at Computicket.

 

La Rosa: A hilarious two-act comedy presented by Full House Productions. This show is about a Spanish soap opera cast and the crew, and can be seen at the Courtyard Theatre at DUT until 19 December.

Tickets are R60 for adults and R50 for students, children and pensioners, and are available at Computicket.

Robin Hood and the Babes in the Wood: KickstArt presents this Christmas pantomime written and directed by Steven Stead. It follows the delightful journey of the dashing Robin Hood and his merry men through the enchanted forests and England’s medieval castles. The show is now on and will run until 9 January 2011 at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre.

Tickets are R100 for adults and R80 for children, pensioners and students for preview shows and R130 for adults and R100 for children, pensioners and students for normal shows. They are available at Computicket.

Umhlanga Summer Carnival: The Umhlanga main beach and village will come alive from 10 December until 23 December with the hustle and bustle of the summer carnival. This is the sixth annual Umhlanga Summer Carnival and promises 14 days of fun-filled beach events and other outdoor activities.

Glenwood Christmas family food market: On 19 December between 10am and 3pm families can unwind at the Bulwer Park while they enjoy a festive day with good food and great activities.  It’s all about fresh and fabulous food so make sure you come hungry.
