Entertain SA: Rocking The Daisies

Comments Off on Entertain SA: Rocking The Daisies

If you’re looking to have a great time this weekend consider driving out to Darling with your camping gear and dancing feet for a fun-filled weekend that’s eco-friendly at this year’s Rocking The Daisies (RTD).

The festival was first held in 2005 and has become one of South Africa’s most-enjoyed music and lifestyle festivals with young adults, children and even the older generation getting in on the green action.

Last year around 10 000 people attended the environmentally-friendly event. Taking place this weekend from 8 October to 10 October at the Cloof Wine Estate in Darling, this year promises to be even better than last year with exciting new acts on the lineup; from childcare facilities to art exhibitions, a daily dose of comical relief and of course cutting edge music.

Every year the RTDs organisers come up and out with innovative ways of making their event South Africa’s premier eco-event. Their message of “play hard, tread lightly” is taken seriously not only by them but by the thousands of attendees. Aside from putting on an exceptional live music event, the organisers’ goal is to educate others about greener lifestyle out in Darling but also back home. They want people to come away from the festival having had an amazing party and thinking about the world differently.

Their electricity is powered by solar and wind, they use LED lighting and bio-diesel generators coupled with bio-degradable soaps and shampoos to create a fresh, green and clean experience. They use recycled and recyclable cutlery and plates and replant trees that may have been damaged or cut down during the festival.

They also have incredible transport initiatives for the hard-core green fundis. You could have applied for Walking The Daisies – a two-day walk from a spot in Cape Town all the way to festival fun in Darling. As a reward for being so ready to reduce your carbon footprint and fuels registered walkers are allowed to attend the festival for free. Otherwise you can cycle there on your bicycle but make sure you don’t do it alone; it’s always a good idea to do these kinds of trips in groups.
