On Tuesday 28 September (the day after World Tourism Day) all Capetonians will have the chance to clean up our act.
Aquarium staff volunteers are going to be cleaning up the Zandvlei Estuary and Muizenberg Beach in support of the International Coastal Cleanup Day (ICCD) and they want you to come and join them.
The ICCD was initiated in 1986 and over 90 countries worldwide are getting involved to clean up the coastlines in their respective surroundings. Talk about a global initiative!
The mission: To clean up unwanted debris from the waterways, shorelines and beaches of the world’s lakes, rivers and oceans, restoring them to their natural glory. Also to collect valuable information about the amount and types of debris being collected and to educate people on marine debris issues. Hopefully the information collected can and will be used to effect positive change.
If you’ve been wanting to do something good for your environment but haven’t known what, here is a perfect opportunity for you to get involved with a cause and help your fellow community clean themselves up.
The Two Oceans Aquarium are proud to be a part of this clean up act and want to encourage all to reduce, recycle and reuse. Most plastics bottles can be recycled and so will reduce the amount of waste found along the river banks and shorelines.
