AfrikaBurn in the Karoo Desert in April: This Year’s Art Theme is Mirage!

Coming up in South Africa from April 25-30, 2012, AfrikaBurn is the spectacular result of the creative expression of a community of volunteers who, once a year, gather in the Tankwa Karoo to create a temporary city of art, theme camps, costume, music and performance.  This year’s art theme is Mirage.

The Art Theme for 2012 is M I R A G E~ a naturally occuring optical phenomenon in which light rays are bent to produce an illusion of water, people or objects.

What is there? What is real? And what is pure imagination? Is this a mirror of ourselves?

A shimmering reflection. Temporary, transient. We gather on that lively line where the hot earth meets an aloof sky, and this is where we dance, sing, rejoice.

It is being held in Tankwa Karoo, which is essentially in the middle of the desert….a long desert.

Think of it as the Burning Man equivalent of southern Africa – where light, art, music, costume, magic and creativity bring amazing people together for five days.

Look for more after the event.
