Zen Palate now has three locations in New York and I’ve been to two of them, including recently at the mid-town location near the Theatre District, which is a stone’s throw from any of the mid-town shows whether you’re there for a matinee or an evening show.
Aside from really lousy service from someone named Varley (or it sounded like that), the place held its earlier expectations and positive experience I had with the place a few years ago. (I still don’t understand how people can hire people who not just aren’t good at being pleasant and giving customer service but seem to hate doing it. Why go out of your way to make a customer feel that lousy? Why in the business if it’s THAT hard for you to be nice?)
But back to the food (just ask for another waiter if you go to that location to avoid the experience I had), you can’t go wrong on your lunch orders. Dinner has equally fabulous choices.
Everything is fresh and the lunch specials are quite the bargain. For under $10, you can get a lunch entree which they serve with unlimited iced tea. I had a scrumptious (albeit heavy) sesame dish with broccoli, brown rice and spring rolls.
Here’s a taste of some of their other options. As you can see, the prices are very reasonable.
