On my recent “Spiritual France” trip through Brittany and Normandy, I came across an adorable quaint village in the countryside of Normandy called Beuvron-en-Auge. It is located roughly 7 kilometers north of Route N13 halfway between Lisieux and Caen. On the way and on the outskirts of Beuvron-en-Auge, you’ll find a beautifully balanced blend of rural charm and authentic nature in its purest form. Have a meander with me so you can see what I saw and you’ll understand by I was so moved by the Normandy countryside…
In and around this area you’ll also discover beautiful misty mornings with haystacks and apple trees off in the distance. Read my article about a very special drive from central Normandy up to the tip of the country to visit Mont Saint Michel. It’s also Calvados country and I was fortune enough to visit one of the most prominent family-run Calvados distilleries in the area.
The village of Beuvron-en-Auge itself consists of an oval central square, ringed by a glorious ensemble of multicoloured half-timbered houses, including the yellow and brown sixteenth-century Vieux Manoir. This architectural design can be found throughout Normandy but given the beauty of this charming and authentic village, you won’t want to miss a stop over here, including a brief visit to the church and Chapelle de Clermont, both very centrally located.
Beuvron-en-Auge is also part of the ‘Normandy cider route’, which is a marked route which passes through several villages including several cider producers in the region. Also worth noting for your calendar is is the flower festival – geraniums a speciality – and a very large cider festival is held at the end of October. Now, take a walk with me through the village and be transformed by her beauty.
Be sure to check out our Brittany/Normandy food & wine section (and posts), as well as our general section on Brittany/Normandy. And, of course for the passionate about all things France, we have quite a bit of content in our France section as well as Paris.
