Below is a host of fabulous festivals in July worth checking out in the state of South Carolina. Go South and Go July. See below for your pick of events and activities.

28th Annual Firecracker 5000 – 5K Run & Walk – The 5K (3.1 miles) Island Packet Firecracker 5000 course starts and finishes behind the mall at Shelter Cove. The festive post-race celebration features live music, fresh fruit, ice-cold refreshments, door prizes and more.

Hillbilly Day – Take a break from the same old Fourth of July routine of dogs and burgers on the backyard grill. This Fourth of July, celebrate America with us in Mountain Rest at Hillbilly Day – the longest-running annual festival in  South Carolina. Free admission and parking.

July 4th Boat Parade & Fireworks – Boaters decorate their boats according to the theme and parade around the inlet at high tide. Fireworks in the inlet begin at 10 p.m. and can be seen from all vantage points on the inlet shores.

Lexington County Peach Festival: The Lexington County Peach Festival is an all-day celebration held on July 4th at Gilbert Community Park.

Red, White & Boom – Celebrate the Fourth of July in Spartanburg with live music and the Upstate’s largest fireworks finale at approximately 9:30 p.m.

Wells Fargo Red, White & Blue Celebration – this July 4th celebration includes a performance by the Greenville Symphony Orchestra along with one of the largest fireworks displays in the state. It also features music, food & beverage and children’s activities.

South Carolina Festival of Discovery – Discover what rural America is all about during the award-winning South Carolina Festival of Discovery in beautiful Uptown Greenwood.  The Barbecue & Hash Cook-off showcases the traditional art of black  kettle hash and the popular tradition of Carolina barbecue.

South Carolina Peach Festival – This 10-day event salutes the peach industry with concerts, sporting events, a parade, truck and tractor pulls and delicious peach desserts.

Jammin’ in July 2013 Music Festival – Enjoy a fabulous family night under the stars! The 15th annual outdoor music festival features 8-10 bands and solo acts playing everything from rock, rootsrock, bluegrass & folk to blues & soul. Kids, blankets, lawn chairs and coolers welcome; no glass or pets.

Camden – National Father & Son Team Classic. This three-day golf event has become the largest father and son golf tournament in the world, featuring a 54-hole competition of Four Ball Stroke Play, Pinehurst Scotch and 2-Man Select Shot. The tournament is open to any father/son-type relationship.

May River Shrimp Festival – this inaugural event will feature local shrimp, food from eight area restaurants, live music, a craft beer garden, shrimp boat tours and a shrimp heading contest.

Pageland Watermelon Festival – Sit back, relax and watch a watermelon-themed parade travel down Pageland’s Main Street. Savor the delicious selection of foods and enjoy the wonderful assortment of traditional music, a car show and a  festival rodeo.

Living History Saturdays: Living history reenactors display colonial skills such as musket firing,  woodworking, fireplace cooking, candle making, crafts and baking in the beehive oven.
