No, the title doesn’t have a mistake in it. Please remember that drinking beer out of a shot glass from a ski on the top of a Colorado mountain at the Continental Divide wasn’t my idea.
It was all part of a grand plan on the “history” tour the day before TBEX 2012 kicked off in Keystone Colorado in mid-June. You have to admit, it certainly is an amusing and clever way to blend two pieces of what Colorado does well: beer and stunning mountains. The issue arises when those participating only do one or the other well, such as yours truly. Now, if wine were in those shot glasses, I stood a chance, but beer? Micro-brewed beer from Colorado as it turns out.
Some of my colleagues seemed to have played this ‘game’ before, or was it an exercise? An exercise in innovation? Or precision? Or just a boat loada fun as one of the Aussies said to me as I made my way down the hill, after letting my teammates down.
1, 2, 3, GO and in unison we were supposed to slurp or pop or gulp or whatever you do with beer shots. Some understand this exercise and then there are those of us who are more accustomed to wine tasting from large glasses, slowly, with some decadent food on a plate nearby.
Rather than a 1, 2, 3, GO, it turned into more of a 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 DUNK.
And yes, that’d be SF Gate’s travel writer Spud Hilton alongside me, but the funniest participant is Andrew Hazelton at the tail end who apparently covers high-end luxury travel at The Platinum Traveller. I guess he missed his exit 70 miles or so back.
What can I say? GO COLORADO may just be in order.
Wondering what we were supposed to be drinking? Avalanche of course.
