Daniel Peter

Daniel Peter (1836–1919) was a Swiss chocolatier of Alsatian origin. He was the first person to make a milk chocolate bar, in 1875. Peter began his career as a candle maker in his native Vevey, Switzerland, but soon demand fell due to the emergence of oil lamps. When Peter invented the process of making milk chocolate in 1857, he had a problem with removing the water from the milk, which caused mildewing.
