Vancouver’s Granville Public Market is a must visit even if you’ve been to countless food markets in other parts of the world.
Part of the experience is catching a ferry ride over to the island for a few bucks, getting the view of Vancouver’s magnificent harbor in the meantime and then taking in everything from chocolate, fruit and crepes to bagels, olive oils, sushi, mexican food and homemade soup. Musicians float throughout in the main hall of the market as well as outside on the docks and the courtyard where people hang out and eat everything they just bought.
One colorful stall after another showcases homemade products, including crafts, soaps and jewelry as well as gastronomic delights. All fresh from the ocean, the oven or the field, you can pretty much find anything you’re looking for and with a view to die for just outside the main hall.
Here are some shots I took inside the public market and below the smattering of color images is a video I shot walking through the market itself. (it includes snippets of chats with vendors as well as a taste of some of Vancouver’s local musicians).
