On more than one occasion, I took in the fabulous food assortments from Eddie V’s Steakhouse in Austin, Texas. It’s a haven for escape from the fury and chaos of Austin’s streets during a major festival or event, such as was the case recently when I was there for the South by Southwest Festival for over a week. The streets were swarming, musicians were playing, beer was flowing in the streets and I was hopping from event to event, not sleeping much because of the never ending schedule. My colleague and I ventured into Eddie V’s, saddled up at the bar and went to town ordering ‘serious’ food that always brought a smile. Fresh, delicious and varied, all of which could be consumed with a number of top notch wine selections by the glass.
If you want to go fresh and light, there’s tuna with fruit, avocado….simple, elegant without guilt to the waistline.
More without guilt to the waistline.
Other fun options include a Vietnamese curry, cilantro and pickled Asian cucumbers, fresh house made tortillas with grilled Sweet corn pico, fresh Main lobster with cream and cognac, a salad with Buffalo Mozzarella, basil, olive oil and balsamic vinegar, a cocktail style shrimp with atomic horseradish and spicy mustard and if you want seafood, there’s plenty to choose from. Try the Jumbo lump crab cake, their tender calamari, batter-fried oysters, the crab and corn chowder, Louisiana red fish, Scottish salmon, Pacific ahi tuna steak, Florida grouper, the Chilean sea bass, the Georges banks scallops or the North Atlantic Lemon sole. They even have a West Australian Lobster tail.
The steak was out of this world.
OR, their oysters in ice with lemon and mignonette Sauce. They serve these ‘happy hour’ too which is about half the normal price.
Sauteed au gratin potatoes anyone, that is if you don’t care about the calories or the fat. Yum!
A somewhat lighter option as a ‘side’ are the green beans.
Dessert, with ice cream of course. And, that’s a mint sprig, but you probably figured that out. A Perfect End to an evening, all while jazz is playing in the background.
