Porsche by Design: Seducing Speed marks the North Carolina Museum of Art’s first design exhibition, exploring the history and development of the Porsche lineage from the 1930s to the present day. The exhibit at the museum in Raleigh North Carolina is featuring 22 automobiles, Porsche by Designpresents cars owned by Ralph Lauren, Steve McQueen, and Janis Joplin, as well as the one-of-a-kind Panamericana concept car on loan from the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart, Germany.
Car lovers will appreciate the rarity and engineering genius of the automobiles on view. Art lovers will be intrigued by Porsche design and the connections that can be drawn with other works of art. All will gain a deep appreciation for hallmarks of the Porsche make: beauty, artistry, technology, and innovation.
Automotive journalist and museum consultant Ken Gross, former director of the Petersen Automotive Museum, is the exhibition curator, and Barbara Wiedemann of the NCMA is managing curator. Porsche by Design is accompanied by a richly illustrated exhibition catalogue, featuring essays by Derek Bell, Miles C. Collier, Robert Cumberford, Ken Gross, Cameron Healy, Cam Ingram, Randy Leffingwell, Karl Ludvigsen, Pete Lyons, Michael Mauer, Denise McCluggage, Dan Neil, and Jeff Zwart.
The exhibit will run through February 2, 2014.
