We wanted to take the opportunity to introduce you to them here and highlight the positive aspects travel has had on their families. Meet the Amazing Family Behind SattvicFamily.com
We are Billy, Elizabeth, and Kaya Alqua Bradley. My husband is a wellness coach, actor, and teacher and I am a writer turned blogger/travel photographer and social media geek.
Where are you now, where have you been and how long have you been traveling?
We currently live in Phuket, Thailand. I moved to the States in 2002 and left in 2009 with my family; we went to South Korea for a year, where my husband taught English in the GEPIK program. After that, we moved to Italy for 6 months. On my own, I have lived in Kenya, Singapore, Sussex, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and a few other places, most notable France, where I grew up.
Why do you travel as a family?
Travel was something I did ALOT as a child, and I was sort of raised between nationalities. I find it hard to say where I am from. My husband picked up the travel bug and so we ended up deciding on raising our family outside of the States.
What are some of the benefits your family has experienced as a result your travels?
Travel has given us an incredible, one of a kind education. We’ve tasted foods from so many cultures and families, who take pride in what they make. My daughter, who we homeschool, has made friends all over the world.
What inspired you and your family to incorporate travel into your lifestyle?
Well it was sort of an accident we ended up moving so many times, but it has been worthwhile and has turned our daughter into a global citizen!!
How do you address education while you are traveling?
We homeschool ( unschool) our daughter, so we have no set curriculum and use a myriad of books and tools to learn.
How do you and your family experience being global citizens?
We feel global citizenship denotes a respect and awe for the world, and a desire to help end the suffering caused by corruption and a monopoly on natural resources. We homeschool Kaya and we do so from the perspective of a global citizen.
Can you share one of your families most memorable experiences?
My daughter and I shared a rickshaw ride in Penang. It was actually pretty dangerous, as we were amongst lots of traffic, but it was so much fun!!
Can you share one story from your travel experiences when you and your family had an “aha moment”.
It’s hard to pinpoint an exact aha moment, but I know through our travels we have gained an understanding on the importance of community and finding like minded people.
What’s next?
We have always dreamed of living in Japan, but now it turns out we will ‘settle down’ in Scotland, and use that as our base for exploring the world.
Lainie Liberti is a recovering branding expert, who’s career once focused on creating campaigns for green – eco business, non-profits and conscious business. Dazzling clients with her high-energy designs for over 18 years, Lainie lent her artistic talents to businesses that matter. But that was then.
In 2008, after the economy took a turn, Lainie decided to be the change (instead of a victim) and began the process of “lifestyle redesign,” a joint decision between both her and her 11-year-old son, Miro. They sold or gave away all of of their possessions in 2009 and began a life of travel, service, and exploration. Lainie and her son Miro began their open-ended adventure backpacking through Central and South America. They are slow traveling around the globe allowing inspiration to be their compass. The pair is most interested in exploring different cultures, contributing by serving, and connecting with humanity as ‘global citizens.’
Today Lainie considers herself a digital nomad who is living a location independent life. She and her son write and podcast their experiences from the road at Raising Miro on the Road of Life.
