Sunflower Exhibition at Miami Airport

Comments Off on Sunflower Exhibition at Miami Airport

There’s currently a really great sunflower exhibit in the Miami Airport, which is presented by the Division of Fine Arts and Cultural Affairs, Miami International Airport and the Division of Life Skills, Miami-Dade County Public Schools.

Most of the photos and artwork are done by students, some as young as 5 and 6 years old. The work is incredible, all of which provides a unique combination of beauty with function. This is the special magic of sunflowers, symbol of the sun god in the early Americas, source of food and fuel and spring of inspiration for artists through time.

Turning to follow the sun with open faces, sunflowers suggest reverence, warmth and happiness. The exhibition is dedicated to MIA’s employee Andrea Ferrer, who passed on May 28, 2008, and whose love of sunflowers was well-known.
