One must-try restaurant when visiting New Orleans is Mother’s Restaurant. Part of its charm is the fact, at first glance, it appears like a simple cafeteria serving cheap food. You’ll wonder why the line is out the door, that is, until you taste your food. While there are many delicious items to choose from, no visit to Mother’s is complete without trying their Famous Ferdi Special, a po’boy featuring baked ham (Mother’s is touted as having some of the world’s best baked ham), roast beef, debris and gravy, and is dressed with shredded cabbage, sliced pickle, mayo, Creole mustard and yellow mustard. The combination of the meats, especially as they each have a different texture, is extremely savory and satisfying, while the enhancements add a touch of sweetness. Mother’s Restaurant is a destination in itself for anyone looking to sample delicious New Orleans food.
