I discovered he work of Janeen Barnhart in Louisville Kentucky recently. While she does a lot of “figures” and other sketches, she is known for her drawings and paintings of horses. After all, Kentucky is horse country. She has a diverse style, and is dedicated to the art of drawing on paper, creating works with such diverse line and texture taking on their own dimension.
Equine Studies, Male Torsos, Sensual Nudes and Loving Couples encompass her extensive repertoire. Although painting is secondary, successful canvases depict similar qualities of classic drawing style and spirited movement. Her exploration with oil painting continues working with a variety of subject matter including her Full-Bodied Wine series, Tulips, Sunflowers, Equine and the Figure. I had to give her a call out since I really liked her work and am sorry I didn’t have enough time in Kentucky to meet her in person.
