Winter. Temperature has warmed up to about 1 Celsius (34F). Sure, it’s not warm but when temps have been -10 and colder for a few weeks, it only makes sense to either slap on some shorts or go for ice cream, specifically gelato. I’ll spare you the hairy legs and tell you about a prime time, go-to spot for the deliciousness of gelato.
Dolce is on College Street in Toronto’s Little Italy. Long considered to be a fave among locals and out-of-towners, Dolce presents a nice environment to satisfy your sweet tooth. It’s got a modern decor and a great atmosphere. Staff work hard keeping the lines moving with a smile.
A dozen or so gelato choices are on hand ranging from the richness of Dolce Rocher to Cappuccino. Sorbet, cakes, pies and muffins are also there for the choosing, all more delicious than the last. Dolce’s gelato is popular for a reason. Great quality, freshness, light, creamy and smooth. And although some may say that the portions are a bit too small, I think it’s just the right amount in quantity and sweetness, giving off that perfect level of filling satisfaction.
And it won’t break the bank either. In fact, a medium cup with 2 flavours (you can go up to a large, 3-flavour cup if you want) will run you just over $4. Add a slice of cake a tea or coffee and you’ll see your total run about $12-$15.
Eat in and have your order delivered to your table or in the summer, enjoy your gelato outdoors on the patio. Either way, it’s a great experience.

Born and raised in Toronto, Jim learned early on that the combination of travel and food meant ultimate living. Combining his insatiable creative spirit and desire to document his travels, Jim took his unshakable travel bug and set off to explore. Add the fact that Jim also grew up in a Greek household and he learned that not only does Mom always make the best meals, but as importantly learned the importance of understanding and appreciating the countless beautiful cultures and the integral role food plays in every corner of the World.
In August 2009, Jim founded Travel Mammal, a site that brings together his travels and experiences (both good and terrifying) with the hope that others are inspired to share their own. We are all storytellers, especially when it comes to travel and food. He urges everyone to be inspired, explore and love the world and the people that share it with us. Or in other words, Live to Travel and travel to live!
