I’ve attended the Fillmore Jazz Festival a few times over the years and oddly enough, the weather always seems to be magical for this annual event. The sun is shining, tables are set up, food stalls and musicians on stages perform throughout the day and in the evening, the energy continues at nearby clubs, venues and cafes, where musicians hang out. This past weekend, San Francisco’s Fillmore area once again made a lot of noise as music and dancing filled the streets.
First Kim Nalley and Peter Apfelbaum. Performances dazzled the audience from the likes of Beth Custer Ensemble, Jenna Mammina and her Trio, Kenny Washington and his Jazz Orchestra, James Whiton, the Jazznotrauts, Dida, Will Bernard Band, Lady Rizzo, Jacob Wendt Trio, Mara Hruby, Bobbie Webb, Bayonics, African Showboyz, Peter Apfelbaum Hieroglyphics Septet and a host of others.
As always, it was crowded, but lively. Hats off to the musicians who make this an incredible event every year.
